Genital Rejuvenation (Labiaplasty)
Female genital rejuvenation or labiaplasty has rapidly become a popular procedure over the last decade. This has been due to the improved surgical techniques and awareness.
The procedure addresses the labia minora that can be large congenitally or enlarge after childbearing. When the labia minora is large it can cause discomfort and pain due to twisting and tugging. This can be aggravated be certain activities like riding a bike or during intercourse.
Ideal candidates are healthy women who are no longer planning on having children and desire genital rejuvenation.
Preparing for your Procedure
As with any procedure, you should stop any medication or supplements that are not essential for 10-14 days prior to decrease your risk of bleeding complications. Please refer to your list of medications to avoid and always check with your Doctor prior to stopping medications.
Labiaplasty can be performed under local anesthesia and involves excising the redundant skin. The incisions are hidden and only absorbable sutures are used.
The procedure is can be performed in the office under local sedation or in an accredited outpatient surgery center with the assistance of an anesthesiologist. You will have some swelling for the first several days. Ice packs can help with the swelling and discomfort. You should avoid rigorous exercise for at least 2 weeks and avoid lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk. You should refrain from sexual activity for 3-4 weeks.
